Grand Bend is a favorite beach location for Waterloo Region residents. It's a perfect road trip to hit the beach in a day and be back by dinner. The beach is white sand and on a calm day, you can walk out into the water for a while before it drops off. Great for families and small children.
When I planned this overnight, I plan to take my mother and son with me as a nice getaway to thank her for all the babysitting she does for us over the summer. I really wanted to make sure she enjoyed her stay. This couldn't be my normal tenting it somewhere. I also wanted to show my Son what a theater show looks like. Grand Bend is the perfect place for this.
We went to see Jack and the Beanstalk at Huron Country Playhouse https://www.draytonentertainment.com/Online/default.asp it's a great small theater for fun shows for the whole family. It was a pantomime show, this was great for the kids in the audience to get into the show. My Son really enjoyed himself and was game for future theater shows because of it.
If you are trying to find a great restaurant right on the beach we went to the Growling Gator http://www.thegrowlinggator.com and were able to have a great lunch enjoying the view of the lake. It was a very windy day that day so luckily we could eat inside.
When planning this trip I wanted to find a hotel that really was in line with the beach and outdoor lifestyle of the area. I found a great spot at Oakwood Resort https://oakwoodresort.ca/ a warning if you are planning a trip here book months in advance. This whole area books up fast. This resort has a private beach entrance but also its own pool which came in handy when the lake was way too rough for my Son to handle! We also had dinner at the restaurant here and we all liked what we had ordered.
The room we got at the resort was perfect. It had a little patio out back and felt very cabinlike. We were able to walk the resort grounds and enjoy our evening under the stars.
The next day heading home we had to stop at Anna Mae's https://annamaes.ca I haven't met anyone that hasn't loved baked goods they get for there. This place is iconic and worth the detour on the way home!
Grand Bend isn't just for May 2-4 camping and shenanigans! There is great family fun that can be had! From camping to the arts this small tourist town has it all.
