Ontario Adventure #33 Binbrook Conservation area and Cameron Speedway

School is out for summer!! I wanted to plan an adventure to celebrate the Kids hard work and resilience through this tough pandemic year. I was fully amazed at the kids this year. They constantly had to change to their new normal and I never heard complaints from them. They wore their masks, got their vaccines, and tried to push through their days. Now was the time to celebrate and show them how much I appreciated them.

I know my kid loves Tree Top Trekking and after last year's adventure, I realized I had a larger fear of heights than I originally thought. I went to plan b ask one of my Kid's friends to come along for the day. When you have only one child sometimes it can be a challenge to be the friend they want on vacation and adventures. This seemed to be a perfect solution. Bring another kid that he loved hanging out with and that I also enjoy having around. I messaged the friend's mom and set it all up. Starting with a sleepover the night before then a jam-packed fun day to have the boys back in town before dinner.

I booked ahead for Tree Top Trekking which I highly recommend as I found out they do book up. I tried to book the Stouffville location for the day but it was all booked up so off to Hamilton instead. This turned out to be best for our day as the Conservation area has so much to do and the surrounding area of Hamilton.

After a very chatty hour drive to Hamilton, we arrived at the Binbrook Conservation area with plenty of time to get harnessed and have the introduction to Tree Top Trekking. When we arrived we saw two school buses in the parking lot and could hear lots of kids in the forests already having a great time or also screaming for their lives!

I got a great view from the ground to see the kids having an amazing time. From all the different games and obstacles to all the ziplines, this was a perfect adventure for these ten-year-olds!

The kids on the school buses were much older than the two I had with me but there were several groups of them not handling the challenges of Tree Top Trekking well. It was great to see these boys not be fazed and have the problem-solving skills they needed to squash any fears! I was really proud of them when they ran to the next course not worried about what was to come. Knowing they could finish it.

After a very hot and sweaty three hours in the forest, it was time to cool down in the Conservation area. This would be one of my favorite Conservation areas for how much you can do in the day. From fishing to tree top trekking, hiking, beach time, splash pad, picnic space, and a fantastic water sporting area this place has everything! The plan was to do a quick run through the splash pad to cool off before moving on for the day. As the boys were getting changed I saw a huge water obstacle course and thought that was way better than the splash pad!!

The boys loved the time they had on the course. It was very slippery and they fell in lots but they were excited to get back on and try again. The morning of this big adventure was rainy and grey skies which left the beach to ourselves. We have been to this area before and that was not the case. I would plan to arrive early at this Conservation area if the weather was perfect and in the peak summer months. We just hit it at the perfect moment.

After a good cool down we moved on to lunch and go-karting at Cameron Speedway only 15 minutes away from Binbrook. After all the climbing the boys were ready for a great lunch. We all ordered from the snack bar. The food options were great from hamburgers, hotdogs, fries, and anything else you would think a snack bar should have.

The boys had just made it over the minimum requirements of having to be over ten years old and 54 inches tall. I got 5 laps for each of us and we were off!

I realized that my son has my need for speed and doesn't know how to use the break! It was like following a character in Mario Kart! But we lived to tell the tale!

This was a perfect test to see how my son handles himself with a friend on one of our adventures. It gives me hope that I can invite his friends and be able to sit back on some of the more adrenaline-fueled days out. I asked him later if I was the embarrassing mom at any point of the day and he said no it was really fun! I take that as a win!

Can't wait to go on our next adventure this summer!
