Ontario Adventure #36 Halton Region, Millcroft Inn and Spa, Cheltenham Badlands, and Spirit Tree

Updated: Feb 28, 2023

Fall is the perfect time to take a road trip to Ontario. Yes, I know everywhere the trees turn colour in the fall but somehow I always have felt Ontario does fall with the reddest and orange colours that make it breathtaking. It was still early fall for this trip so the trees had just started changing but we could already see the leaves start to turn red. Plus the area we were going would not disappoint.

Halton Region is a very large area of tiny villages and towns that just beg to be explored. In one day we took in three different towns and wanted to go back for more. Halton Region is part of the Niagara Escarpment. This makes the drive even more spectacular.

We stopped for lunch at Spirit Tree Estate Cidery https://spirittreecider.com/ This Cidery had it all great food, apple picking, and day drinking!! We shared a sample flight of sparkling ciders and hard cider. My favorite was the sparkling apple cider, this would be a dangerous drink because it tastes just like apple juice. The sparkling pear was delicious as well. The best part is they have a store you can pick up all your favorites before going home!

Lunch was delicious, they have a great menu that would satisfy everyone. The seats are outside but there is a tent area if the weather isn't cooperating. I got the signature Burger, the portions were great and the food made the sampling flight taste that much better!

The apple picking was only available on the weekends but the team there was nice enough to get us picked that day's bags. The best part was we took whatever apples were available which was McIntosh. Great apple and a new favorite for sure!

The weather was ever-changing that day. Not sure if we were going to be able to hike the Badlands we drove there to at least see the hills. Luckily once we got there the clouds parted! To see the Cheltenham Badlands https://cvc.ca/discover-our-parks/the-cheltenham-badlands/ you need to pre-book a time and parking. If you are going on a fall weekend I would advise doing this in advance. We were on a random Thursday in September so we lucked out and were able to book from the car in the parking lot!

The hike isn't tough, but it takes a few minutes to get to the boardwalk at the top of the rolling hills. Plaques show the history of how the hills formed and are worth the read. This is also a great selfie spot.

When deciding to book this trip I wanted a hotel that had everything on site, once we got there and didn't want to drive around. I took this night away with my sister-in-law and knew we liked good food, good Prosecco, and spa time. The extra bonus with this Millcroft Inn and Spa https://www.vintage-hotels.com/millcroft-inn/ was we also got fantastic Hot Springs!

This place should be called a resort. As we drove up to the property we really didn't know if we were in the right spot. The signage and front desk area aren't very clear. After having to stop and ask at the first building we came to we realized we needed a map to figure out where we should be going. After we got figured out and checked in it was smooth sailing.

The rooms are in old buildings that all look very unique. I imagine it's hard to get two rooms that look the same. Our room was in a loft-style room with a slanted ceiling. The keys are all old style which makes it all look very historical.

The grounds are very beautiful and deserve a long walk around to take it all in.

Before a late dinner, we took in the Hot Springs. This was my favorite part of the Spa. It really is an extra feature that you don't realize you are missing when you go to places with regular hot tubs. These need to be in my life more often!!!

There are two restaurants at the hotel one fancy and one less fancy. We booked our dinner for the fancy! We got there a bit early and got to have a drink in the bar area. We had a great view of the river and the setting sun.

Perfect portions to leave room for a signature dessert! The dessert was made from honey and maple syrup made on the property. I bought a jar of both before leaving and was happy I did!

The main reason for this night away was to have some spa time! The spa at Millcroft is one of my favorites. As a girl that loves spa time and loves finding new spas to go to this one would be in my top ten. One day I will make a post about Ontario Spas but I feel I need to test out more locations, it's a hard job lol

The spa facilities are everything you would want. From the locker rooms to the lounge and café, to the wonderful hot springs. Grab a friend and spend the day just enjoying the spa and everything it offers. Have a cup of tea, lots to choose from. We got a facial and pedicure. I would recommend both to anyone. I was rubbed from head to toe and loved it all!

I won't forget this night away any time soon. I'm normally not a person that likes to go back to what I have already done but I could see myself going back to Millcroft Inn & Spa with more friends to enjoy a girls' spa trip. It's under an hour from Kitchener and we can see so much in the area. Halton Region should be on anyone's Ontario road trip list!
