Ontario Adventures #4-#7 Trails around Kitchener Ontario

After we got home from our adventure in Algonquin Provincial Park we realized something was missing. We had been talking about getting a puppy for a couple of months up to the adventure. When we saw all the campers with their dogs we realized a new member of the family would be a great addition to our adventures!

This changed our adventures to making sure everything we did was dog friendly. When I researched places to camp I had to look for campgrounds that were dog friendly. I had to look for dog-friendly beaches before we committed and booked.

Knowing the summer would be trails and camping I thought we should start our girl with some easy trails in Kitchener. Places not far from home if it wasn't going well. We started out with Borden Wetlands Adventure #4. This is a very close trail that we had been to pre-pup so thought it would be easy.

Borden Wetlands is great for a quick walk through a forest. A couple of trails go in different directions. We went in the winter so the stream was frozen over, making it easier to get out of.

There was a fort made out of huge tree logs. For some reason, my child felt he needed to bring a shovel just in case we got stuck in the forest.

Ontario Adventure #5 Schneider Creek trail. This trail is off Homerwatson in the Doon area. It follows Schneider Creek. The winter had been very cold and made for huge ice breaks on the edge of the creek. Again we wanted to get Bo out and see how she did on the trails. This trail doesn't do a loop. It's good to keep that in mind when you start to get tired, might be time to head back.

Homer Watson Park Trail was an Ontario Adventure #6. The large tree canopy is great for hot days. This trail is very close to home and had the most wildlife we had ever seen on a hike. My son couldn't believe there were deer in the city. He also wasn't happy about the snake that crossed our path on the trail. The dog wasn't sure what to make of it. We've been back several times and have never seen the wildlife again. Just in the right spot at the right time!

Marguerite Ormston Trailway Ontario Adventure #7. Again just off Homer Watson near the 401. Not a loop so had to double back. A well-used trail that has large pathways to get around people. My son said, "the world is so beautiful."

When I started researching Waterloo Region trails I was blown away with how many there are. We try to get out a couple of times a month to a new trail in the area. More will be posted on My Ontario Adventures website as I get through my past adventures! If you have any suggestions for Waterloo Region trails you can post suggestions in the comments.
